The police response to the weeks of protests may end up costing the city of Portland in court.
Michael Fuller, an attorney at Underdog Law Office, says he’s filed eight separate lawsuits on behalf of people who claim they were tear gassed, pepper sprayed, and hit with “explosive projectiles.”
His clients, who include a teacher, nurse, and student, say the police bureau’s less lethal munitions aren’t appropriate for dealing with peaceful protesters.
“We have never seen protests at this level before and we have never really seen the police open up and fire upon peaceful protesters like this either,” Fuller said.
He said his clients were inured during the protests.
Fuller sent the city a letter outlining his complaints and demands. He’s hoping to hear some answers in the coming weeks.
