A federal lawsuit alleges that an Oregon Health & Science University doctor known for dancing in his scrubs on social media sexually harassed a coworker at Portland’s Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Court documents allege that Jason Campbell harassed a female social worker last year, including unwanted touching and sending sexually charged text messages. Court documents say that the incidents began in January 2020 during his time as a resident and employee of OHSU.
Campbell was one of the many doctors and healthcare workers who was known for making TikTok videos at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. He told KATU in the past that he wanted to use the platform to remind them to wash their hands and practice social distancing.
After news of the lawsuit, OHSU released a statement, writing: OHSU does not condone behavior as described in the lawsuit. We are continuously working to evolve our culture, policies and practices to provide an environment where all learners, employees, patients and visitors feel safe and welcome. While we cannot comment at this time on the specifics of this pending litigation, we take our role seriously in being part of the change that needs to happen across our country to end discrimination and power dynamics that allow for harassment. We remain committed to these ideals and will continue to prioritize them as a public leader in health care, education and research.
KATU News has reached out to both Dr. Campbell and Campbell’s lawyer for a comment on the lawsuit. We will update this story when we hear back.
The University of Florida and UF College of Medicine in Gainesville recently hired Campbell and said in a statement to KATU on Monday that the university immediately placed him on administrative leave upon learning of the allegations.
“They did not begin any official duties on campus nor have contact with any patients. The University of Florida is committed to providing a safe educational, work and residential environment that is free from harassment or misconduct,” the university said.
